2017 Farmer Apprenticeship Program
Do you like being outside in the fresh air?
Do you enjoy being around animals?
Are you 13 or over?
Do you like problem solving and building things?
This is your chance to try out the farming lifestyle!
Flamig Farm offers a Teenage Farmer Apprenticeship Program for youth ages 13 and up. Apprentices will participate in all the activities involved on the farm. Sometimes on a farm we wake up with a plan to do something but then the farm creates a different plan. Sometimes the life of an apprentice at Flamig Farm will be like that.
Other times we will do projects like building fences or animal shelters, roofing a building, do a lube and oil change on an antique Farmall H, fix a broken water pipe, install new chicken coop floors, build windows to get ready for next winter, split firewood, plant or harvest vegetables, clean and organize the workshop, mow some lawn and feed the grass clippings to the chickens, fence in the pigs on pasture, plan the pastured poultry project, take a walk and identify trees, sit in a sunny field and watch the bees fly in and out of their hives and wonder????? (How they do what they do?), brew a batch of biodiesel from used vegetable oil, replace a broken evacuated tube on the solar hot water system, figure out how to get the data recorder link connected to our photovoltaic panels to display on our website, go find the escaped draft horses or repair the hay wagons . . . . got the picture?? Itʼs EDUCATIONAL and FUN!
COST is $275/week: Includes Lunch & a Snack
